SWEAT, by Lynn Nottage

March 22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28, 2024, William Inge Memorial Theatre

Based on research and dialogue that arose from Lynn Nottage embedding herself within the working-class community of Reading, Pennsylvania, SWEAT explores how marginalized people build community with one another and how they respond when that community is divided against itself.

The University Theatre presents Lynn Nottage’s 2017 Pulitzer Prize-winning play SWEAT, which explores the lives of Rust Belt factory workers and the pressure of productivity.    
Before the Broadway national tour begins, a local production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, a Musical Thriller, will explore the psyche of the villain and bring the community Stephen Sondheim’s brilliant melodies with the help of KU Opera and Symphony Orchestra.
